Navratra Diet A Healthy Weightloss Plan
The nine days of fasting ritual is a mandatory custom in most Hindu households, twice a month. Although, the belief behind this tradition seems purely like a spiritual choice but the true benefits of Navratri are more than just a rituialistic achievement.
I, as a nutritionist realized that if the eight to nine days fasting is followed to the core, benefits are many:
- The salt free meals or sendha namak substitutions help relieve water retention.
- The light meals help clear bowels and is a healthy colon cleansing routine.
- The wheat free diet is a great detox.
- The pulse free diet is good to help relieve bloating and gaseous discomfort.
Follow this plan for 5 days, once every month and see good results in weight without feeling fatigued or hungry -
Early Morning (6-8 a.m) - A cup of tea with low fat milk and 1/3rd teaspoon sugar.
Breakfast (8-9 a.m) - A bowl of sabudana porridge in low fat milk with 1/3rd teaspoon sugar or an apple and banana with a glass of milk.
Mid- Morning (10-11 a.m) - A glass of lassi with a pinch of sendha namak and roasted zeera.
Lunch (12-2 p.m) - A medium sized boiled aloo with a cup of curd with a pinch or sendha namak and roasted zeera. Have a whole cucumber along with this.
Evening (4-6 p.m) - A bowl of sawai keh chawal with lauki kah raita or a bowl of sabudana khicdi with pumpkin ki sabji (prepared in sendha namak and green chillies only). You may use coriander leaves, curry leaves and lemon juice for flavor.
Dinner (6-7.30 p.m) - A cup of hot milk and a piece of gur peanut chakki or half of ram laddu.
Post dinner- An apple
This diet may not seem low in calorie but may help you shed a kg or more due to water loss and detoxification. The intention of this plan is purely to act as cleansing of gastric system once a month.
