I Know - I Should Quit Smoking

I know Smoking Kills!

This is a fact but the road downhill can be very treacherous is a recent realisation.

I remind myself everyday that one day I will get rid of this habit, sooner the better; because:

Psoriasis is a skin condition that leaves an itchy oozy rash all over the body. Smokers are more likely to develop this inflammation of the skin. Check out the home remedy for Psoriasis.

Cataract, cloudiness of the eye lens. Smokers have 40% more chance of developing cataract causing blindness.

Hearing Loss incidence
is three times higher in smokers due to middle ear infections than in non-smokers.

Premature wrinkling of skin
due to nutritional depletion is observed in individuals who are habitual smokers.

Cancer
is 20 times more susceptible in smokers than non-smokers.

Quitting smoke is difficult. But where there is a will there is way.

Chewing gum or sipping on plenty of fresh water during the day may be one way of delaying the urge to smoke.

Here are few interesting facts about smoking in India
A new study conducted on smoking in India by the New England Journal of Medicine shows that by the year 2010, there will be a million people dying every year through deaths that are caused by smoking related illnesses.
By recent counts, there are about 94 million smokers in India. Of these, about 14 million are ill from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). COPD is the fourth leading cause of adult deaths in India and it has been found to be mostly caused by smoking. Almost 5 percent of women and a third of all men aged between 30 and 69 in India smoke. Aside from the conventional cigarettes, they also smoke bidis which is a type of Asian cigarettes. Bidis are made by wrapping one quarter of the content of a conventional cigarette in a temburni plant. They are usually smaller than normal cigarettes. Smoking of bidis has been found to cause deaths faster; about 6years for men and 8 years for women, than a non smoker. Smoking cigarettes causes death 10 years sooner

Per year smokers smoke about 6 million tons of tobacco in different ways (cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco...).
