Dear Dietitian, How can I enjoy myself at holiday parties but not gain weight?

Dear Dietitian, How can I enjoy myself at holiday parties but not gain weight?

Partying is in full swing. Xmas dinners and New Year celebrations are on. Cakes, pies, buffets and alcohol are expected. So is weight gain.

If you are looking forward to partying but fear the weight gain that follows, here is my suggestion:
  1. Eat a snack before you party. A Healthy snack is cottage cheese sandwich or oatmeal porridge with an apple.
  2. Avoid soft drinks at the party and if you drink alcohol prefer it in diet sodas.
  3. Skip the appetizers. As you have already eaten a healthy snack it is okay.
  4. Have your dinner on time if it is a buffet spread. Prefer to eat one cereal choice and one protein choice. Limit your portion sizes.
  5. Be a snob eater. That is, munch on stuff that you like and forego that you don’t.
  6. Stay away from desserts.
  7. Next day detox yourself with fruits and veggies all day long.

Wishing you the season’s greetings and a healthy holiday.

Yes It is very easy to stay away from yummy looking desserts be a snob eater and munch on salads when you can eat ther yummy stuff If it were so easy the question would itself not be significant
